A Float Collar is generally installed 1 joint of casing above the Float or Guide Shoe. It includes backpressure check valve(s), which allows circulation of fluid flow in only one direction.
Float Shoes serve several functions, i.e., they guide the casing, provide a barrier to prohibit wellbore fluid and pressure from entering the casing string during installation, and serve as the primary valve during the cementing operations. It is typically run with a Float Collar for redundancy.
